Looking for inspiration for your next adventure? Here are some of our favourite places to visit and things to do in our local area.

Visit Ilkley

Ilkley is a beautiful Victorian spa town, recently voted the Best Place to Live in the UK 2022 by the Sunday Times. It’s home to some of Yorkshire’s finest tea rooms, boutique shops and magnificent surrounding countryside, including the famous Moor.

Places to visit include the town’s Toy Museum, the Riverside Gardens and the former spa baths at White Wells. We recommend a bracing walk from the town centre to Ilkley Tarn followed by a visit to Betty’s famous cafe.

It’s also home to one of the largest cycling clubs in the country and is recognised for the beautiful surrounding countryside and moorland walks for all abilities to enjoy.

Bolton Abbey

Bolton Abbey, nestled within the magnificent 30,000-acre estate owned by the esteemed Duke of Devonshire. Situated at the entrance of the renowned Yorkshire Dales, this enchanting destination offers visitors an unforgettable day out.

Explore the village and estate with circular walks around the Priory Church, Abbey ruins, and scenic River Wharfe. Don’t miss the famous Strid Woods, the Priest’s House, Barden, or the stunning views from Simon’s Seat.

Skipton Castle

Over 900 years old, Skipton Castle is one of the most complete and best preserved medieval castles in England. Come rain or shine, this is a wonderful destination for visitors to explore this historic castle, from climbing through the Dungeon to the Watch Tower on the top storey, or touring through the Kitchen, Bed Chambers and Banqueting Hall, the site allows you to imagine what life was like and see how the castle protected habitants from invaders.

The Dales Way Footpath

Passing through Addingham, this long-distance walking route from Ilkley to Bowness on Windermere extends to over 80 miles through stunning countryside including the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Whether you want to tackle the full Dales Way or part of it, this renowned route attracts outdoor enthusiasts from far and wide.

Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway

A firm favourite for a family day out, this restored heritage steam railway hosts regular events and theme days throughout the year.

Operating along part of the former Ilkley to Skipton line, visitors are able to travel between the restored Victorian station at Embsay through some of the Yorkshire Dales’ most beautiful scenery to Bolton Abbey.
